James Austin tossed a complete game 3 hitter with 9 strikouts. Jim O'Boyle scored the lone run after a double, stolen base, and a RBI single from Jose Gonzalez. Defensively, Carlos Hughes and Gonzalez made outstanding plays.

Lou Gehrig scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th to force a tie, before winning in 9. Carlos Hughes was the winning pitcher with 5 innings of 1 run ball. O'Boyle had 4 hits, while Jeff Zimmer had a single, double, and triple to pace the offense. Zimmer drove in Gonzalez in the bottom of the ninth for the victory.
